Juan Tercero, PE., M.Sc.
Juan Tercero is a Florida-licensed Professional Engineer and the founder of Tercero Tablada Civil and Structural Engineering Inc. A civil engineer by training (National University of Engineering) with a Master in Construction Project Management from the Universidad de Barcelona, he leads every engagement personally — from the first conversation with an owner, board or architect to the sealed drawing set or the submitted report.
The practice covers both halves of structural work in South Florida: the design of new reinforced-concrete buildings, and the evaluation, recertification and repair of buildings already standing. Both are done with the same discipline — the reasoning behind every conclusion is written down, and nothing leaves the office that has not been checked line by line.
I would rather explain a structural decision in plain language than hide it behind a code reference. A board should be able to read a findings report and know what to do next; a contractor should be able to build from the drawing without calling; and a reviewer should be able to follow the calculation from load to detail.

Two kinds of work run through this practice, and they inform each other. Designing new structures teaches you what fails in the field; inspecting buildings that have been standing for decades teaches you what to detail differently the next time.
Our method is model-first. Structure is modeled, coordinated and documented as one connected source of truth, checked against the design basis, so that what goes to permit is complete and coordinated.
On existing buildings the same discipline applies in reverse: the building is field-verified before it is analyzed, and nothing is concluded from a drawing that has not been confirmed on site.
