How the Building Safety Inspection Program runs in Hillsboro Beach
In Hillsboro Beach the program runs through the Town of Hillsboro Beach Building Department, which the town says is powered by Calvin, Giordano & Associates. The town’s page on the program explains the change from the older schedule, links Broward County’s program page and publishes a log of the reports submitted for each building. The rows below follow those pages, one subject at a time.
- The town’s program page
- The town’s page names it a building safety program for buildings at the county’s first age or older, and explains that the Board of Rules and Appeals revised what was formerly known as the 40-Year Inspection Program to match state law, moving the first inspection earlier. For the rest of the rules it sends readers to Broward County’s program page.
- A town ordinance
- The program is also written into the town’s own code. A public notice on the town’s site announced the second reading of an ordinance creating a section titled Building Safety Inspection Program, in the chapter of the code of ordinances on buildings and building regulations.
- The log of reports
- Hillsboro Beach publishes a list of the buildings in the program — the town calls it its log report list — with each building’s name and address, the year built, the year due, a status and notes. The notes follow each file: reports submitted or approved, repair permits applied for, letters received from engineers.
- Searching past reports
- To search the reports already submitted to the town, Hillsboro Beach’s page points to its Forerunner floodplain information website, the same place the town uses for its flood information.
- Copies of a report
- A copy of the safety report on any building in Hillsboro Beach is requested from the Town Clerk through a public records request. The town’s request form adds that such a request does not have to be in writing, though it asks requesters to consider using the form, which goes by fax or to the town’s mailing address.
- Questions on the program
- The town’s program page names two contacts for questions: the Building Official and the Permit Administrator. The Building Department’s page also lists a general voicemail and an e-mail address for inspections and general questions, and a separate line for permitting.
- Repairs and permits
- The log’s notes show repairs moving through permits — concrete restoration and electrical work applied for, issued and finaled. The Building Department’s page sends permit holders to Community Core, its permitting portal, to schedule inspections, view plan review comments and check inspection results, behind a login.

Questions & answers
Questions boards in Hillsboro Beach ask
Can we see our building’s past safety reports in Hillsboro Beach?
Yes, two ways. The town’s page points to its Forerunner floodplain information website to search the reports submitted to the town, and for a copy of a safety report it asks for a public records request to the Town Clerk. The town’s log report list also shows where each building stands.
Why does the Hillsboro Beach list still use the 40-year label?
Because the list kept the program’s former name: one of its columns is still headed with the 40-year label. The town’s program page explains that the Board of Rules and Appeals revised that program, and the first inspection now comes at the age in the row “First due”.
Does Hillsboro Beach have its own form for the BSIP?
The town’s pages show none. Its building applications and forms page lists no BSIP form, and its program page sends owners to Broward County’s page for the program. We confirm with the Building Department which forms it expects before the complete inspection package is filed.
What happens in Hillsboro Beach while repairs are still open?
The town’s log shows how it follows them: notes on repair permits applied for or issued, follow-up messages to engineers, and engineers’ letters stating there are no life safety issues while repairs go on. Broward’s repair time is the row “If repairs are needed”; past it, the Building Official is the one to ask.
Who runs the Hillsboro Beach Building Department?
The town’s page says the Town of Hillsboro Beach Building Department is powered by Calvin, Giordano & Associates, Inc. Its Building Official and its Permit Administrator are the contacts the program page names for questions about the building safety program.
